Steeped in history, culture and architectural heritage, Norwich is one of my favourite cities in the UK – and not just because it’s home to No. 33, a cake emporium which tops my to-visit list every time I visit the city. I doubt I could ever tire of wandering its cobbled streets and elegantly styled arcades, browsing its antique sales and independent retailers, or working my way through the city’s many eateries. Designated a UNESCO City of Literature in 2012, Norwich’s Business Improvement District (BID) has since commissioned a number of eye-catching murals which draw on the city’s vibrant past. Some seamlessly blend elements of folklore with the fabric of the city; others combine the city’s landmarks with its literary heritage. Here are six of my favourites, from a morning spent wandering the city’s streets . . .

La Grenouille Anglaise 
Love a city that’s adorned in street art! I am rather bummed I never got to any of East Anglia whilst in the UK. It’s high on my list for “next time I’m spending more than a week visiting and can actually get out of London”.

Me too, I can’t resist scouting out street art, murals and the like, whether on my home turf or elsewhere! East Anglia’s got some real gems, and the coastline is beautiful. Hope you make it there next time you’re in the UK!

It hosts a few literary festivals, and a number of well-known authors have come from UEA’s Creative Writing course, including Ian McEwan and Kazuo Ishiguro 🙂 Definitely worth a visit if you get the chance!

It’s well worth a visit, and a great base for day trips out to the coast (Cromer, Sheringham, Southwold). I’ve not been to The Broads yet, so that’s next on my to-see list when I’m in Norwich!

I’ve never been to Norwich & must admit I had no idea of the street art, or the cake emporium (definitely a reason to visit!!)

Norwich has some really picturesque spots, and a great independent café and shopping scene 🙂 I love how the new murals brighten up otherwise unused walls!
